My, how the county council can take over your life. Like most things in life, the more you put in the more you get out it seems.

I sit on a number of formal committees and groups that look into the business of the council.  I have recently taken on the responsibility of Cabinet Assistant to the two Cabinet members looking after Corporate services. This is an unpaid role but one that will increase my experience significantly and is designed to help take the load during these difficult times. As part of this Cabinet Assistant role I have been  appointed as a board member to the Local Government Shared Services project with Northamptonshire where I will be able to help extract maximum benefit for Cambridgeshire. I have also been appointed to the Audit and Accounts committee so I will be active in ensuring everything is in order. I remain a member of the highways supervisory board which should give me some influence over how our roads are looked after. Please don’t all shout “potholes” at once - i’ve got that message !!! 

I have had to step down from the Corporate Services scrutiny Committee as it would be a conflict of interest with my work as a Cabinet Assistant. Game keeper turned poacher perhaps.

I am also please to have been asked to chair a new scrutiny committee for Safer and Stronger Communities. This committee has powers to scrutinise not only the activities of the  County Council but also a number of other organisations including the Police, Fire Service and NHS.

Whilst there will be some facts I also hope to include my thoughts and comments on what has happened. If I say the wrong thing or get myself into trouble this will be the place to read all about it.
