All About Me

2010

This website is about me. All the views on the site are my own, for better or worse.

I am 50 and married to a hospital doctor with 6 grown up children. Having joined the RAF in 1977, I travelled extensively before settling down in Cambridgeshire where I have lived since 1991. In 1999 I joined a computer chip design company before becoming the CEO of an IT consultancy in Sawston, which I successfully sold last year. In this role I formed and grew a subsidiary company in Sri Lanka.

For the last 11 years I have played cricket for Fen Ditton.  Unfortunately,  last year I was forced, through age and reducing ability, to play for a team that plays on the college grounds. At least I know the ball will bounce correctly.

I successfully formed and became chairman of the trustees of a youth action group charity, in Bottisham, engaging with young people to help provide positive input into their social lives. This helped to reduce antisocial behaviour significantly.

As the recent past local chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses I actively promoted the benefits of buying locally. I also led the FSB campaign against congestion charging and spoke at a number of consultation meetings on the subject. I was delighted when this unfair proposal was killed. It now needs to be buried.

As an independent member of Cambridgeshire Police Authority I used my extensive commercial experience to continue to press the constabulary for even greater efficiency. I have been fully supportive of the Chief Constable in seeking a fairer deal for Cambridgeshire in the grant awarded by central government.

I have been an operating board member of the Greater Cambridge Partnership for a number of years. This organisation brings together business and public sector leaders to promote a successful Cambridge sub region.

Until recently I helped set up and was a trustee, of Addenbrookes Abroad, a charity linking our magnificent hospital to areas of the world where they are not so fortunate.

I am passionate about winning. I know that I can’t win at everything but that does not stop me from trying. I love to see energy, enthusiasm, commitment and drive.
